Real Machines, Real Sizes, a Real Person on the Floor

Hollywood, South Carolina doesn't have a lot of laundromats, and the ones that exist aren't all built the same. We Fold's self-service floor was set up around a simple complaint we heard from neighbors for years: machines that are either too small for a real family load, or too worn out to actually get things clean. So when we put in new equipment, we went big — literally. Our newest washer holds 100 lb, which is enough capacity for a king-size comforter set, a full load of rental linens, or four or five normal hamper loads combined into a single $13.50 cycle. If you've ever hauled two or three loads of towels to a machine that could only fit one at a time, you'll understand why this changes a laundry day.

Below the 100 lb machine we still carry the full range: 20 lb for a quick single load, 30 and 40 lb for a typical family hamper, and 60 and 80 lb for bedding, area rugs or a week's worth of work uniforms. Deluxe and ultra wash cycles are available as add-ons if you're dealing with heavier soil — think yard work clothes, boat gear covered in pluff mud, or anything that's been sitting in a beach bag since the weekend. Dryers are priced by heat level, and if a load needs a little more time, an extra 40-minute cycle is just $2.00 rather than starting the whole thing over.

What makes this a laundromat people actually want to spend an hour in, rather than one they tolerate, comes down to the amenities. Free high-speed Wi-Fi means you can answer work email or stream a show while a load runs. Parking is secure and well lit, which matters if you're coming in after work in the evening — we're open until 9:00 PM with last service at 8:00 PM, so an after-hours run is still realistic. The floor itself is staffed rather than left unattended, and we keep vending stocked with detergent, softener, dryer sheets and cold drinks — so if you forgot something at home, you're not driving back for it.

If you've never used a self-service laundromat before, here's the short version: sort at home by color and fabric weight if you have time, bring everything in a basket or a couple of trash bags, and let a staff member help you choose a washer size when you get here. You don't need an account, a membership, or an app — you show up, wash, dry, and fold. Detergent and basic supplies are available on-site if you forget yours. And if a whole comforter set or a stack of rental linens is the reason you're here, ask about the 100 lb washer specifically — it's often the fastest and cheapest way to handle a big, bulky load in one pass instead of splitting it across several smaller machines.
