When it's worth it
A 20 lb bag of wash and fold is $35. Doing the same load yourself is roughly three hours between washing, drying, folding, and the trip if you don't have a machine at home. If those three hours are worth more than $12 each to you, the math is done.
It tends to be worth it if you are:
- Running a short-term rental and turning over linens between guests.
- Working full time with kids in the house.
- Dealing with bulky items your home machine can't handle, like comforters and rugs.
- Out at Edisto or Wadmalaw where the nearest machine is a drive either way.
When it isn't
Being straight with you. If you have a working washer and dryer at home, you're doing one or two loads a week, and you don't mind folding, per-pound service is more expensive than doing it yourself. That's just true.
